HRS Gardens are a small team of gardeners based in Bristol, who offer year round gardening services, focussed on restoration, redesign and maintenance.
To unravel the overgrowth and rediscover the contours, secret pathways, walls and ponds. Often gardens become neglected or fall victim to mismanagement and require careful practice to unveil the former glory and potential.
Based on the latest RHS science and following the principles of' 'right plant, right place', our redesign of beds and borders will be beautiful, low maintenance, ecologically beneficial and customised to the expectations of the client.
Your expectations should be high, and ours are exceptional. We deliver year round maintenance services, from a winter prune of a fruit orchard, to a weekly summer mow, and everything in between.
By appreciating gardens are a place for people to enjoy, and for nature to thrive, our approach is both artistic and scientific. We encourage natural, healthy ecosystems, whilst creating beautiful spaces.
Making the most of any food, fuel, fibre and fertiliser available, whilst making composting a priority of any unused vegetative matter. Our approach is to minimise input, and maximise output.
A healthy garden is one that is biodiverse. By providing a range of wild flowers, potential habitats, and ecological niches, we can encourage nature to thrive.
Approaching planting schemes in this manner can lead to significant reductions in water use, fertiliser and labour.
Adopting methods that do not harm the garden or the wider environment, such as slug nematodes, companion planting, or a vigorous hand weeding.
Whilst studying towards a degree in Geography and Environmental Management (Bsc), I came to understand that organic agriculture and localised food production is vital for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and this lead me to acquire an allotment. Never was there a better teacher than the first hand experience of attempting to grow a disease free potato, a sweetcorn void of earwig, or a successful succession of Mangetout.
My allotment taught me to appreciate the intimacy of soil, plants and humans, inspired me to become an RHS qualified gardener and dedicate myself to the sustainable management of gardens.
Prior to setting up HRS Gardens in West Yorkshire in 2019, I worked alongside Gareth Edwards (MSc MCIHort), a renowned Historic Landscapes specialist and Ecologist based in Bristol. Gareth helped me develop an extensive knowledge of plants, intimate plant care, and best gardening practice.
Over the last ten years I have worked within a diverse range of gardens, from small backyards, to stately homes, and have developed the knowledge and skills to successfully restore, redesign and maintain gardens to an exceptional and ethical standard.
Having successfully completed a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) in early 2024, I hope to expand my current skills and design principles to help address the wider environmental issues of our time.
